State-of-the-Art Knowledge | Trusted Endometriosis Specialist NYC
Dr. Bozdogan uses state-of-the-art diagnostic methods, whether patients have endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse or pelvic pain. These advanced diagnostic approaches sometimes include laparoscopy and robot-assisted surgical exploration. These kinds of minimally-invasive techniques are considered major steps forward compared with traditional “open” exploratory surgical methods.
Dr. Bozdogan also uses advanced technology when performing a range of major surgical procedures such as hysterectomies, endometriosis surgery, gynecologic and pelvic reconstruction and fibroid removal. Performing such surgeries using traditional “open” methods created large scars and kept patients in the hospital for several days or sometimes weeks. Using less invasive techniques means that such surgeries have become minor procedures in many cases.
Patients treated with these newer techniques typically heal faster and have less scarring. Some less invasive surgery can be performed in same day surgery centers and patients can return home the same day.
Laparoscopy is an advanced type of surgery that can be used for both diagnosis and treatment. It uses a miniature camera called a laparoscope and high-tech surgical instruments, which are inserted through very small incisions. Laparoscopy is considered a comparabley low-risk technique compared with “open” surgery and has proven to be a significant medical advance.
Dr. Bozdogan has many years of experience performing laparoscopy and other types of minimally-invasive surgery.
Dr. Bozdogan earned his medical degree at the Istanbul University School of Medicine, followed by a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School where he served as chief resident. A fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Bozdogan has advanced training in gynecologic and pelvic reconstruction, with a special interest in robot-assisted surgery. A member of the Minimally Invasive Robotic Association and the American Association of Gynecology Laparoscopists, Dr. Bozdogan also acts as proctor for da Vinci Robotic Surgery, training other doctors in the innovative technique and technology at the Hackensack University Medical Center.
Dr. Bozdogan has received high-level training and has done special studies in robot-assisted surgery. He has performed dozens, even hundreds, of procedures using this advanced technology. His extensive surgical experience includes a wide range of gynecologic and pelvic procedures.
When he performs robotic-assisted surgery, Dr. Bozdogan uses the da Vinci robotic surgical system, which was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2000 and has been used on millions of patients ever since. This system is considered the “gold standard” in robotic surgery.
The da Vinci system provides a magnified three-dimensional HD view inside the patient’s body. It also allows the surgeon’s hand movements to be translated into very small, very precise movements using tiny surgical instruments, which adds an unmatched level of accuracy. The surgeon is able to see exactly what needs to be done and execute each surgical step in an extremely precise way.
